BEETHOVEN 1827 - Final Resonances
This concert brings together the final piano trios of Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven—two composers connected by history, by the Viennese musical tradition, and by a master-student relationship.
Haydn’s Trio No. 45 in E-flat major, composed in 1797, is his last work in the genre. Often regarded as the inventor of the modern piano trio, Haydn displays in this piece all the refinement, clarity, and wit that define his style.
With the Archduke Trio, Op. 97, composed in 1811 during a period of full artistic maturity, Beethoven also bids farewell to the piano trio. Dedicated to his pupil and patron Archduke Rudolph of Austria, this lyrical and powerful work stands as a pinnacle of the genre.
